Orlando, FL— Anna V. Eskamani has received the endorsement of the Sunrise Movement, an organization of young people committed to making climate change an urgent priority across America through electing leaders who stand up for the health and wellbeing of all people, while also addressing the deep influence of fossil fuel executives in politics.

“Anna is a progressive advocate, daughter of immigrants, and our endorsed candidate in the Democratic primary for FL HD-47,” announced the Sunrise Movement through a tweet. “She was one of the earliest signers in Florida of the #NoFossilFuelMoney pledge and wants Florida to join Orlando in reaching for 100% renewables.

Anna was one of twenty candidates from across the country to earn the support of the Sunrise Movement, via their first round of endorsements.

“I believe that Florida’s future economy relies on protecting and preserving our natural resources, from waterways to beaches, from swamps to forests,” said Anna. “As the Sunshine State, we should be the global leader in renewable energy, especially solar. We must invest in the creation of green jobs, and prioritize the health of our families, climate, and democracy. Climate change is real, and we must not only curb it’s impact but protect communities who are already experiencing extreme weather and rising sea levels. It’s time we move away from energy sources of the past and look instead, towards the future.”

Anna has long been critical of Governor Rick Scott’s Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) too. “Under his leadership, the terms “climate change” and “global warming” have been banned, and FDEP has more operated as a rubber stamp for development versus playing the role as a thought partner and protector of our environment,” added Anna.

“Unfortunately, the Trump Administration has subscribed to the same level of disregard for environmental protection. It’s critical that leaders like me are elected to the Florida House to ensure the use of science in policy making and the accountability of government agencies.”
